Although Gary Owen and his wife had gained notoriety on social media for sharing their experiences as a multicultural family, that ended in March when Kenya filed for divorce after more than 17 years of marriage. In early May, reports surfaced that Kenya's request for monthly 44.000 US dollars in spousal support was revealed, which subsequently sparked a confrontation between the former lovers on social media.

In court documents, Kenya claimed Gary left her no choice but to seek spousal support after she quit her job more than two decades ago to support the comedian in his career as an entertainer. She wrote, "Gary and I have been married for over 17 years. 23 years ago, I gave up my promising career as an account manager to support Gary and his career alone.'

She added that she was unable to communicate with Gary about her household debt via text message, and urged Gary to continue making regular deposits to pay the mortgage and bills, as well as her legal fees.
Kenya added, "Gary has been the sole provider for over 23 years and continues to make a significant amount of money (even during COVID)' and there is no reason why he should not continue to provide support as he has throughout our marriage.'
In lieu of court action, Gary posted a picture wearing a shirt with the word breadwinner on the front, and Kenya did not take his joke lightly. She went on to call the entertainer dead beat and claimed he has not supported her or her children since she filed for divorce. And Gary had a response to that as well.

When asked about child support allegations, Gary said he and his soon-to-be ex-wife have adults – not children. He told Wendy Williams , No, really, because it turns out I'm a deadbeat dad, but our kids are adults.
